Allison Smith, Ph.D

Allison Smith, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow offering empirically-supported psychotherapy to adults and late adolescents who are experiencing difficulties with mood, anxiety or overcontrol, borderline personality disorder, or symptoms of trauma. She also focuses in providing care for women’s issues associated with all phases of life and in providing affirming care for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. In therapy, Dr. Smith creates a supportive environment for clients to process difficulties, problem solve, and learn new tools for coping.

Dr. Smith received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kansas in 2023. Her clinical training was predominantly in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She also engaged in research that focused on intimate partner violence, gender, and sexuality. She has published peer-reviewed articles on victimization and resilience and has presented her work at regional, national, and international academic meetings.

She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL, where she gained specialized experience in supporting veterans living with personality disorders and suicidal ideation. She currently works under the supervision of Dr. Sean Ransom, CBT NOLA’s clinical director. In addition to her work at CBT NOLA, she holds a joint appointment with the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center of Puget Sound.
