Our Approach to Psychiatry
Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders from a medical perspective. A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in mental health, including ADHD. These doctors are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems.
At the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center of New Orleans, we believe in a comprehensive approach to mental health that is grounded in evidence-based treatments. Our physicians not only focus on the diagnosis and treatment of disease, but also on prevention, early intervention, and mental wellness.
We currently provide psychiatric care for individuals age 18 and older. For those under age 18, we work with other psychiatrists in the community who specialize in pediatric psychiatry and we would be happy to provide you with a referral to one of our outstanding pediatric psychiatry colleagues.

Evaluation and Treatment Planning
Treatment begins with an initial evaluation. We undertake a careful review, which may include an intake interview, a physical evaluation, and a few easily completed questionnaires. At the end of this process, a personalized treatment plan is developed to map out the next best steps and, if appropriate, recommend the best medication to address your symptoms.
-
Medication Management
Our physicians can prescribe medications to help manage mental health disorders. Depending on your needs, medication may be in conjunction with other therapies, such as psychotherapy, or the medication may be used alone. We closely monitor our patients to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment plan and to minimize any medication side effects.
-
Psychotherapy
In addition to medication, our physicians may recommend psychotherapy as part of your treatment plan. Our team includes specialists in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based therapy methods.

Specialty Consultations
